The mystery of who won the $1.5 billion Mega Millions jackpot in SC has been solved, but the victor wants to remain anonymous.

A United States lottery ticket holder has claimed a $US1.5 billion ($2.1 billion) Mega Millions jackpot in the state of SC.
The owner of a convenience store that sold the winning ticket in the $1.5 billion Mega Millions lottery says it's "exciting" that a victor has finally come forward to claim the prize.
The drawing for the jackpot was held on October 23, 2018.
Revealing how the ticket was purchased, South Carolina's lottery commission said in a statement: "In a fortuitous gesture recounted by lottery officials, the lucky contestant had allowed a fellow customer at the KC Mart to jump ahead in line to buy a ticket just before the winning ticket was sold".
The anonymous victor won $1.2 billion in the MegaMillions jackpot. The State of SC will benefit from $61 million that will be collected in income taxes from the victor.
"South Carolina is one of eight states - along with Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and Texas - where winners can opt to keep their identity a secret", reports New York Post.
For months, SC residents had speculated on why the victor hadn't stepped forward.
Hans Blake, a SC investing expert, told the Greenville News that had the victor claimed their prize in October and picked the $878 million lump sun, that person could have already made more than $5 million off interest.
The winning ticket was sold in Simpsonville, S.C. back on October 23, but since then the sole victor has remained in hiding.
The commission also revealed the victor "marvels at how every decision made that day brought [them] to the store", adding that "a simple act of kindness led to an awesome outcome". Some thought the victor was so overwhelmed at seeing the winning numbers pop up that he or she died on the spot.
With the April 19 deadline to claim the jackpot inching closer, there had been mounting speculation about the victor. Time would have officially run out to claim the jackpot on April 19, 2019.
Patel stands to make a $50,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.
The prize being claimed does come with other benefits for the state and the shop that sold it.
