Elway, who turns 59 this summer, and Fangio, who turns 61 in August, will make up one of the oldest coach-GM duos in the National Football League in 2019.
We're down to three head-coaching vacancies in the NFL.
Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has reportedly reached an agreement to become the next head coach of the Broncos, according to Adam Schefter and Dan Graziano of ESPN. And the two who did not - Josh McDaniels and Vance Joseph - were fired in two or fewer seasons, combining for three years of at least 10 losses of the four on the job. Kubiak, the former Broncos coach who led them to Super Bowl 50 before retiring, was likely always going to be forced upon the next Denver head coach (and for good reason).
He replaces Vance Joseph, who posted the franchise's first back-to-back losing seasons since 1971-72 and was sacked on New Year's Eve with an 11-21 record.
"I pay attention to the schemes that these guys run". As defensive coordinator, he transformed a unit that finished 20th in total defense in 2015 (his first year there) to the league's best in 2018.
Fangio takes over a franchise that has won just 11 games in the last two years.
Fangio was also defensive coordinator at Stanford in 2010. It ended abruptly for Fangio on Sunday as the team with the No. 1-ranked defense went one-and-done in the playoffs for the first time since the 2011 Pittsburgh Steelers.
This is a team that was built on defense last season. Bowles has most recently run 3-4 schemes in both NY and Arizona, and Chicago's defensive personnel would be a much better fit than the Bucs, who have run a 4-3 as their base defense since 1990.
The Eagles had taken the lead when Nick Foles hit Golden Tate with a 2-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 56 seconds remaining against the NFL's stingiest defense.
