Yeah, I was wrong.
OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition box has McLaren's logo, Speedmarks, designed by it in F1 AA grade carbon fiber. That doesn't make it any less impressive, of course.
First, the finish has changed. After a month with the 6T, it is clearly the best value available today with T-Mobile's $579 model satisfying the masses. The McLaren edition isn't your average black smartphone, however. While light streaks across the McLaren logo, illuminating and disappearing in an instant.
Another difference from the original OnePlus 6T is the pattern underneath the glass back cover that is based on McLaren's carbon fiber technology that has been at the heart of all McLaren cars since 1981. It's a very unique effect, and it looks fantastic in person.
Usually, carmakers the likes of McLaren partner with prestige watchmakers.
The OnePlus 6T McLaren edition has 10GB RAM, warp charging, and a $699 price tag
The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition also comes with 256GB of storage. Considering that you get more RAM and a lot more in the box - the faster charger and a case - it's actually pretty good value for money. This is a 30W charges - with regular OnePlus 6T you get a 20W charger - and it is faster.
Finally, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition box contains a McLaren logo - called Speedmark - made out of McLaren designed F1 AA-grade carbon fibre, which is said to be the same material used in the McLaren MCL33 2018 Formula 1 auto. The phone is also backed by 3700 mAh battery with Warp charge 30 that is claimed to provide all-day charge in just 20 minutes.
In brief: OnePlus and McLaren have formed a partnership to create a limited edition smartphone that borrows theming from iconic supercars. Warp Charge 30 takes fast charging to new heights and never leaves people waiting, offering a day's power in just 20 minutes.
This is thanks to new circuitry in both the phone and charger, along with what OnePlus describes as "finely tuned power management software" to prevent the device from overheating. From our unboxing article, you already know that the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition comes inside the book that highlights some important events in OnePlus and McLaren's history. The McLaren edition is only US$70 (about RM293) more than the standard 8GB RAM + 256GB storage version.
When compared to the OnePlus 6T standard edition, the McLaren Edition has 2GB more RAM and Warp Charge 30 to more efficiently fuel up the smartphone.
The new phone goes on sale in North America and Western Europe this Thursday, December 13, with availability in India, China and the Nordics soon after.
