According to the NYPD Sex Offender Unit database, Petty was convicted in 1995 for the attempted first-degree rape of a 16-year-old girl in an incident that occurred in 1994, when he was 16.
On Monday (December 11), after the "Barbie Dreams" rapper went Instagram public with her fresh relationship, she was bombarded with criticism of her 40-year-old beau, who she's reportedly known since high school. Minaj shared a photo on Instagram with her leg wrapped around Petty, quoting Adele's song "Hello" in the caption.
Minaj did not bother addressing the fact that Petty was also convicted of manslaughter for the 2002 shooting death of a man that cost Petty seven years behind bars, The Blast also uncovered in their investigation of Petty's past. Petty was released from prison in 2013, and remained on supervised release until May of this year, the outlet reports. He was sentenced to 18 - 54 months in prison, but it is unclear how much time he actually served.
"I hate to say it, but after #NickiMinaj defended her brother (sex offender) and 6ix9ine (sex offender), I can't honestly say I'm surprised to hear she's now defending her new boyfriend- another sex offender. Let's give'm smthn [sic] to talk about", Minaj captioned the selfies.
But the comment section went decidedly against her to the point where Nicki disabled the comments on the post.
