"It's time for me to kill that old b***h, I'm exhausted, man", he said.
Asked why he was finally ready to say goodbye to a character he's been playing for almost 20 years, Perry replied, "I just don't want to be her age playing her". I just don't want to be her age playing her, So, we're going to say goodbye to her. "I'm exhausted man." So here's the trailer for A Madea Family Funeral, Perry's last time playing his long-running Mabel "Madea" Simmons character on-screen.
Perry said he actually shot "Family Funeral" two years ago but wanted to stagger it along with his other films, including two Madea Halloween movies and the drama "Acrimony". The play was directed and written by Perry, who also starred in the play and portrayed the fictional character.
But all good things must come to an end, as Perry explains why it's time to put Madea to rest. The film will premiere in March and will be the last time the famed character will take over the silver screen. He'll also play her on a farewell stage tour. Over the proceeding decades, the character has appeared in nine more plays, along with 10 films ("Madea Family Funeral" will be the franchise's 11th movie).
Are you sad to see Madea go?
