The Germany global hasn't started any of City's league games this season and didn't even make the squad with reports circulating that Pep Guardiola has grown frustrated with the forward's attitude, but considering the chances his team mates missed, you have to ask if his side missed him.
The German winger, who was last season's Young Player of the Season, has not started any of City's four matches this campaign, coming on as a second-half substitute in each of their three Premier League games.
However, speaking after the Newcastle win, the City boss offered an explanation for Sane's omission.
Guardiola was unwilling to criticise the 22-year-old in his post-match press conference, insisting that he has so many forwards that one had to miss out. But we have a squad, we have six strikers and I chose to play with two strikers, we have two wingers plus another one on the bench and that's why we decided this game he wouldn't be there.
"I am completely happy with his attitude".
"He played 10 minutes, he tried". He was not precise but he tried. So they will get that side of me, feeling compassionate.
"Today I took that decision for the way the opponent plays and what I saw every day".
Sane spent the whole of pre-season with Man City, having been left out of Germany's World Cup squad.
