A selection of Liverpool fans on social media are thrilled that Man City are set for a spell without their talisman and believe it could boost their own title bid.
"The extent of the problem is not yet known and we will bring you further updates on Kevin's condition in due course", read a brief statement on the club's website. And De Bruyne's injury could present an early opportunity for exciting youngster Phil Foden.
The Belgian midfielder suffered a similar injury against Everton back in 2016, when he was stretchered off after tearing ligaments in his knee and ankle.
De Bruyne made 52 appearances in a marathon 2017-18 season for City before featuring heavily for Belgium at the World Cup.
It is believe this injury will keep De Bruyne out for two to three months, sidelining him until at least October.
He also has Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan, who were both brilliant in the 2-0 win over Arsenal on the weekend.
The 27-year-old is one of the Premier League's star performers and City will be hoping that the injury isn't too serious.
