Two older German men defied societal norms though when they attended the Wacken Open Air Festival.
The nursing home had already alerted police to their disappearance.
'They obviously liked the metal festival, ' said police spokeswoman Merle Neufeld.
You're never too old.
A spokesperson for the festival did not know if the two men had bought tickets to the event.
The festival in the town of Wacken was sold out and had an estimated attendance of about 75,000.
Two elderly men alarmed staff when they went missing from their nursing home on Friday (3 August). They had to be escorted home with a taxi and a patrol vehicle as a "precaution", police said.
The metal-loving men were eventually found by police at the festival at 3am.
Police said in a press release that officers in a patrol auto spotted the men, "who were apparently intrigued with the metal festival".
This year's festival also featured headlining acts like Judas Priest, Danzig, Converge, Steel Panther, Behemoth, Sepultura, Helloween, Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, and Gojira to name but a mere few.
The ageing metalheads, who have not been identified, were found at 03:00 local time (01:00 BST) on the festival grounds, a police statement said.
