This NBA off-season is so wild and it gets even more wild, with DeMarcus Cousins signing a one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors, reigning NBA champions and current Unstoppable Force of Nature.
Golden State used its taxpayer midlevel exception to reach a deal with Cousins, who underwent surgery in late January to fix the torn Achilles. At some point next season, they're in line to have Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Cousins available to start.
Of course, the one factor that became clear in that tough series against Boston was how desperate Philadelphia was for adding another superstar, which is where Paul George could all of a sudden come into play.
Assuming he is healthy, Cousins on the Warriors offense is downright scary.
So the Warriors are going to use their taxpayer mid-level exception to bring in a four-time All-Star since JaVale McGee left and agreed to join James on the Lakers. He spent six and a half seasons in Sacramento before he was traded to New Orleans in February 2017. Cousins, who has never played in a playoff game since entering the league in 2010, is expected to sit out the first few months of the regular season as he recovers from his injury. The Sixers now can pursue depth pieces to fill out their roster, presumably including another shooter on the wing, perhaps another wing defender and a backup center to fill in minutes behind star Joel Embiid.
"I know for a fact my teammates want me back there, but you know it's a business", Cousins said.
Cousins and Davis were also on their way to becoming the first teammates in National Basketball Association history to average at least 25 points and 10 rebounds in the same season. He was averaging 25.1 points, 12.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists alongside fellow All-Star Anthony Davis, putting him in line for a massive contract extension.
The Warriors finished with the ninth best defense in the league last season.
