The largest Eid celebration in Europe took place in a United Kingdom park today with over 140,000 Muslims gathering to mark the end of Ramadan. After the common prayer, the community interchanges the festival greetings and gifts.
Surveys show that no single racial or ethnic group accounts for a majority among the 3.45 million Muslims in the U.S. In fact, Muslims are one of the most racially diverse religious groups in the country.
With the holy month of Ramazan drawing to a close, Muslims across the world are getting ready to celebrate Eidul Fitr this weekend.
Eid al-Fitr 2018 Dates: The day of Eid, falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal, the tenth month of the lunar Islamic calendar.
Eid means "celebration" and Mubarak means "blessed", and is used to greet people during the festive period. "Regardless of whether it's a party, funeral, special event, or Eid, we are always together".
The astronomical new moon occurs at 1:12 am on June 14 and thus, the first visible crescent will occur on June 15, marking Eid-ul-Fitr the next day.
Eid al-Fitr was announced last night when the new crescent moon was observed.
The meeting of the committee to sight Shawwal 1439 AH moon was held at Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), and chaired by Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman.
He also greeted the Saudi people and Muslims everywhere, thanking Allah because "we have successfully and comfortably completed our fasting and worshipping during the holy month of Ramadan". The Government of India, along with the state governments, have declared a gazetted holiday on Friday.
Later in the year there will be another celebration, called Eid al-Adha.
This is the second most important festival in the Islamic calendar.
However, school children in Dubai will be off from Thursday to Sunday for Eid, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority said on Tuesday.
It is during this time Muslims take the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
