Snap's woes have been blamed on the redesign of video-messaging app Snapchat, which was changed to make it easier to use for older users. It also posted a net loss of $385.8 million.

"We are now focused on optimizing the redesign based on our ongoing experimentation", CEO Evan Spiegel said in a statement.

In an attempt to diversify its business, Snap has also moved into hardware for the first time, launching the video-enabled Spectacles sunglasses that could record short clips to then be shared via Snapchat. A Change.org petition asking the company to remove the redesign now has more than 1.2 million signatures. She has since resumed using Snapchat.
