In the wee hours of Thursday, a Lashkar militant was killed in an gun fight in Hajin area of the Bandipora disttrict, police said.
According to reports, the security forces were tipped about the militant's presence in Banipora's Hajin village post midnight.
The militant is said to have escaped after suffering bullet injuries in a gunfight with the security forces in the area a day earlier.
No casualties have been reported so far, he added.
On Wednesday, a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba militant, who had been wounded in a gunfight with security forces on Monday, succumbed to his injures.
"One terrorist of LET [Lashkar-e-Taiba] apparently FT [foreign terrorist] killed in an encounter in Hajin Bandipora today morning in a joint operation of J&K Police/Army/ CRPF", J&K's Director General of Police SP Vaid tweeted.
They said security forces also retaliated ensuing an encounter.
"Such malicious campaign indicates designs of mischief mongers to exploit the situation", a police statement issued here said. From mid 90's to later part of last decade Hajin was out of bounds for militants as it was the hometown of the most dreaded renegade Kuka Parray, a star anti-militancy commander.
