The Palm Beach sheriff said detectives learned the suspect was also involved in a shooting Tuesday night in West Palm Beach.
A spokeswoman for the Palm Beach County sheriff's office did not immediately reply to requests for information on the incident.
A portion of I-95 in Palm Beach County will be shut down all day Wednesday after a deputy shot and killed a man driving the wrong way down the highway.
"The description was a Nissan Rogue, which is this a black one, with the suspect description the same", Sheriff Bradshaw said.
He said the deputies approached the vehicle, before opening fire and fatally wounding the suspect, who was sitting in the driver's seat.
Bradshaw said the deputy involved in Wednesday's shooting wasn't injured.
The wounded woman was found dead inside the wrecked SUV and her name was also withheld.
Three drivers were taken to hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening, he said.
