Karni Sena ends agitation against Padmaavat?

Shree Rajput Karni Sena patron Lokendra Singh Kalvi had said they would not allow the screening of the film. The apex court directed all state governments and not us. "They also told us that the decision as to whether to screen the film on a later date will be taken afterwards", he added. "The Supreme Court in its order has not prevented anyone to raise their protest against the film".

Meanwhile, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said on Tuesday that most theatre owners in the state had voluntarily chose to not screen controversial Bollywood film "Padmaavat" as he emphasised that the state government was trying its best to maintain law and order.

Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said, "Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in view of release of the Padmaavat in various cinema halls and multiplexes on January 25 as there is likelihood of law and order disturbance".

Concerned about the law and order situation in Haryana just a day ahead of the film Padmaavat's release, the state administration in Gurugram are keeping a close watch on protesters and people gatherings in large number, however in other parts of the country like Ahmedabad, Gujarat protesters burnt vehicles and pelted stones even as cinema halls announced they would not screen it despite Supreme Court orders.

A Maharashtra Minister, Jaykumar Rawal, appealed to people not to watch the film, saying Mr. Bhansali had tampered with the history to earn money. Historians RS Khangarot, BL Gupta, Kapil Kumar, Roshan Sharma and erstwhile Mewar royal family member Vishwaraj Singh and erstwhile Banswara royal family member Jagmal Singh were the six persons, the Karni Sena leader said. Karni Sena has made representations to chief ministers of 17 states, as well as the Prime Minister and BJP national president Amit Shah, not to release the film.
