Land Rover is set to reveal a coupé version of the Range Rover at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March, but don't expect it to become a common sight on the roads. The emphasis as a Range Rover for drivers is clear in the two-colour interior, with white quilted leather up front and black for the back seats.
It's likely that the vehicle will be powered by the top-of-the-range engine offered in a Range Rover - the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 that produces up to 557bhp in the SVAutobiography model.
It follows the Defender Works V8 unveiled last week, another limited edition special project reawakening the dormant Defender badge for one last hurrah, complete with 400bhp V8 and performance figures (in a straight line) to worry hot hatchbacks.
Land Rover on Tuesday revealed a teaser image of the interior of the 2-door Range Rover to whet the appetites of SUV enthusiasts worldwide.
Land Rover says it was created to commemorate the company's 70th anniversary this year, but marking exactly seven decades since the release of the original 1948 Land Rover Series I will be the all-new Defender at a special celebration late this year.
Not to be confused with the 'Road Rover" - a future electric passenger vehicle and fourth "pillar' for Land Rover alongside the Defender, Discovery and Range Rover - the Rangie SV Coupe harks back to the original two-door Range Rover of 1970. "This is a vehicle that will resonate on an emotional level", said in a statement Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Chief Design Officer.
Land Rover says: 'The seductive coupe design pays homage to the original Range Rover, in Land Rover's 70th Anniversary year.' The 1970 original launched as a two-door, don't forget and that shape is its most coveted iteration.
The vehicle, launching during the 70 anniversary of Land Rover, will be hand-assembled at the company's SV Technical Center in Warwickshire, U.K., with production limited to 999 copies.
"Land Rover created the luxury SUV sector with Range Rover nearly 50 years ago", added John Edwards, Land Rover Special Operations Managing Director, "In launching the new Range Rover SV Coupé, we will offer clients an alluring combination of peerless luxury and rarity".
