There have been rumours around the Indian smartphone manufacturer planning to launch an Android Go device. Also coming inside Micromax Bharat Go will be the "Go" versions of Google Search, Google Assistant, Google Maps, Gmail and more. Targeted at first-time smartphone buyers and mostly those with feature phones, Bharat Go promises to deliver optimized Android experience for millions of Indian consumers. Android Oreo Go Edition is Android's low cost version for affordable smartphones and this project had been announce by Google past year.
Though nothing is concrete about the details of the device as of now, it's expected to be a low-end device priced around ₹2,000.
The new OS and pre-installed apps have been optimised to take up 50 per cent less space that would double the amount of available storage on entry-level devices, the company earlier said. Android Go is kind of similar to Google's Android One program that aims to bring improvements in the ecosystem of the budget smartphones. However, these smartphones did not meet much success in the Indian market. It's the best of Android, built with new and reimagined apps, so even the most affordable Android smartphones are as sweet as can be.
The smartphone will be the first in the country to be available with Oreo Go edition. Since, Android GO platform is developed for entry-level devices in consideration, the Bharat GO ought to have RAM size of 512MB or 1GB at the maximum.
While this is the software part, chipset makers like Qualcomm and MediaTek are also reportedly working on optimizing their processors for Android Go.
