The company said a Tier 1 manufacturer would introduce the first phone with the tech at CES 2018. The company has teased a phone with minimal bezels and an under-display fingerprint sensor.
The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo is going to launch its first official smartphone with under display fingerprint sensor at CES 2018. This may be true as this phone was earlier spotted online with an under-display fingerprint sensor.
It will be interesting to see how the new biometric scanning technology will affect the smartphone usage and the industry trends. These fingerprint sensors can be embedded inside the display and will be scratch-proof as well waterproof.
As per GSMArena, the new fingerprint sensor will be housed between the OLED panel and mainboard. Vivo posted a teaser on Twitter suggesting it will unveil the first phone with in-display fingerprint sensor, which will likely be provided by Synaptics. However, Synaptics' component is said to work with other devices like iPhone, LG, and Samsung. The taller display has also resulted in the end of the physical home button on the front of the device, where the fingerprint scanner was typically placed. A fingerprint scanner under the display has not yet launched in any commercially available smartphone.
Most smartphone makers have moved the fingerprint scanner to the rear.
At the time when Face recognition technology is replacing the fingerprint sensor, Vivo wants to revolutionize the fingerprint sensor again. The technology aims to offer better and more convenient fingerprint authentication experience in future smartphones. Then, in November, Synaptics announced its Clear ID in-display fingerprint sensors, and said a "top five" smartphone OEM would use it in 2018. Vivo says it will announce the availability of its first in-display fingerprint scanning smartphone in early 21018. The latest fingerprint scanning technology will enable users to unlock their smartphone through one-touch fingerprint scanning directly on the smartphone display.
