The AT&T deal died a few weeks after members of the U.S. Senate and House intelligence committees wrote to the Federal Communications Commission raising concerns about reports that Huawei had struck a deal with a major telecommunications carrier.
Huawei have revealed that their device will not be sold with the carriers in the United States, the company has said that the handset will be sold through "open channels" in the US.
Huawei was set to have a big 2018 as it was finally expected to land a major USA carrier to sell its devices through a partnership with AT&T.
Other specifications on the device include 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage a standard, there is another model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
That placed Huawei's smartphones at a considerable disadvantage compared to Apple, Samsung and other phone makers whose products are readily available from mobile carriers' stores. That deal has been cancelled according to people claiming knowledge about the deal. "USA customers need a better choice, and as a leader in technology and innovation, Huawei is prepared to fill this need", the Chinese telecom equipment giant said. USA customers who were looking forward to the device can get it, but not in the manner that many prefer and have grown accustomed to.
Huawei has always been viewed with suspicion in Washington because of alleged links to the Chinese government. It would have been the Chinese company's biggest opportunity to break into the US market with its smartphones.
WSJ noted that the failed AT&T deal marks a setback for Huawei and its ambition to be the world's leading smartphone brand. However, Huawei will continue on its determined campaign to pierce through the lucrative North American market. This is because the USA has the biggest market in terms of revenue generated.
