The islanders are now involved in a three-Test rubber against India.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Perera, who has not appeared in global cricket since an injury he sustained in the Champions Trophy, has been recalled in the 16-man Sri Lanka squad for the three-match ODI series against India, beginning on December 10 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) stadium, Dharamsala. The final match of the series is under way at Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.
Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara recalled nine players including skipper Thisara Perera from the airport, moments before departure as he was yet to give his official approval.
Thisara Perera will lead a 16-member Sri Lankan side against India in three One-Day Internationals starting on December 10.
Last week, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had named all-rounder Thisara Perera as one-day captain in place of Upul Tharanga.
The remaining eight are reported to be Upul Tharanga, Danushka Gunathilaka, Asela Gunaratne, Chathuranga de Silva, Sachith Pathirana, Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Pradeep. Neither did Kusal Mendis, who was rested for the Test series.
A "Cricbuzz" report said the players were already in the airport and one of them had even boarded the flight.
However, Kusal Perera and all-rounder Asela Gunaratne have returned to the one-day worldwide squad for the series against India.
It is bellieved that the team that was announced on November 30 had not received the approval from the ministry of sports, which is required for every team representing Sri Lanka.
