Police say Zamora had socialized with the victims before shooting them outside a Fort Collins apartment complex located blocks from Colorado State University.
Police have confirmed that one other victim was killed in the attack but the identity of that victim has not been released.
The pre-dawn shooting took place just about a mile west of the campus at 720 City Park Ave. After shots were heard, University police alerted students and faculty via text and email to stay inside their buildings.
A Colorado State University student was out celebrating her 22nd birthday in the hours before being fatally shot by her boyfriend, an Air Force staff sergeant stationed in Wyoming, police say. The 22-year-old from Highlands Ranch was reportedly shot multiple times and her death is being ruled as a homicide.

The Fort Collins Coloradoan reports McNealy was studying liberal arts, art and art history. She was also a designer for CSU life, a campus publication. The other three victims were not affiliated with CSU. Responding officers found four people had been shot, including a person believed to be the suspect, police said.
Colorado State University is a public university with more than 33,000 students.
Police had not released a motive in the shooting as of the afternoon of October 20.
A former CSU student by the name of Darren Rutz lives near the area and reported waking up by the sound of gunfire followed by a woman screaming, according to his interview with CBS Denver station KCNC-TV.
"She was well-loved and respected by those who knew her", said CSU president Tony Frank in a statement, calling her an "exceptional, bright, energetic, confident, and creative young woman".
