Indian team with Hero Asia Cup 2017.
India completely outplayed Pakistan, to secure their spot in the 2017 Hockey Asia Cup final. India reached the finals after trouncing Pakistan 4-0.
The Men in Blue started brilliantly, with Ramandeep Singh scoring an early goal, in the third minute. Sunil Sowmapreet darted into the circle from the right flank to release a fierce push for Ramandeep Singh, who hit the board with his second attempt after the Malaysian goalkeeper had blocked the initial hit.
After things stayed goalless at half time, India once again emphasised on the big gulf between the two teams with quick and efficient passing in the third and fourth quarter. Their efforts bore fruit in the 50th minute when Shahril Saabah pulled one goal back.
The Indian midfield have been held well by skipper Manpreet Singh and Chinglensana Singh, while veteran Sardar Singh has done exceedingly well as the central defender and the linkman between the midfield and the forwards.
This was India's third continental title.
The Indians, ranked sixth in the world, were in for nervous last 10 minutes as Malaysia went full throttle for an equaliser but they were not good enough for the strong Indian defence.
Meanwhile, Coach Sjoerd Marijne said, "I was a bit anxious when the score was 2-1, unusual goals can happen in last four to five minutes. India rejoices at this stupendous victory", the Prime Minister said. This was our first ever Asia Cup final and I am really happy with the way the boys performed on two back-to-back days.
