The Alabama Crimson Tide will start the college football season as the No. 1 team in the Associated Press preseason Top 25 poll for the second straight year.
With that being the case, Monday sees the release of the 2017 college football preseason AP Poll.
Fifty-two of 61 media members voted to put Alabama at No. 1 for this season's poll. TCU is the top team among those receiving votes with 98 points.
In addition to Alabama, the Seminoles host No. 18 Miami on September 16 and No. 16 Louisville on October 21 and travel to No. 5 Clemson on November 11 and to No. 17 Florida on November 25.
The two highest-ranked SEC teams in the preseason poll are No. 1 Alabama and No. 12 Auburn. They were 2 and 3 respectively in the Coaches Poll, however, the AP voters may give the Seminoles the nod at No. 2, making that Sep.
"I don't think that's anybody's call to make, including any preseason poll, which basically means little to nothing about anything", Saban said August 3.
K-State returns 44 letterwinners - including 18 starters - from last year's squad that earned a 9-4 record and capped its season with a 33-28 victory over Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl. NC State also received top-25 consideration. Despite the Longhorns having a bad year in 2016 (losing to KU was the cherry on top of that cake), they always get national appeal simply because they're the Texas Longhorns. This is the 10th time in the past 11 seasons that the SEC has had at least six ranked teams in the preseason.
The rest of the top 10 has annual contenders such as Penn State, Oklahoma, Washington, Wisconsin and Oklahoma State. It will be Florida's first non-conference regular-season game played outside of the state since 1991.
