The Supreme Court on Tuesday will hear Sasikala's review plea against her conviction in the disproportionate assets case.
Dinakaran was here to meet his jailed aunt Sasikala on her 63rd birthday. The EPS camp had already delegitimised deputy general secretary and Sasikala's nephew TTV Dhinakaran, also a precondition for the merger by the rival faction. The Sasikala camp moved 100 of the AIADMK MLAs to Golden Bay Resort in Koovathur in a bid to stop them from being poached. Following the merger, former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam swore in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at 4;30 pm.
Reflecting the BJP's thinking, Gurumurthy has taken the view that the AIADMK should be purged of corrupt elements (hinting towards the Sasikala clan) and reunited to reclaim the frozen "Two Leaves" symbol so that it could align with the BJP whenever Tamil Nadu goes to the polls.
After months of confusion, two warring factions of the AIADMK have merged.
OPS accepted the post of deputy chief minister and became the party coordinator as well.
Earlier on Saturday, the veteran leader of the O Panneerselvam faction and former minister KP Munuswamy had finally rejected the allegations which were being said that they were stopping both the factions to stay together.
Born on July 14, 1951, Panneerselvam was a close aide of Jayalalithaa and is one of the founding members of the AIADMK. Palaniswami cabinet revolts against Dhinakaran and decides to keep him and his family out of the party and government.
EK Palaniswami took the oath as Chief Minister and things have been going smooth. It may be recalled that after the demise of the AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran in December 1987, the party split into two factions, one headed by Jayalalithaa and another by Janaki Ramachandran.
Soon after the announcement of the merger Chief Minister Palanisamy and Panneerselvam, along with other members of AIADMK have paid their tributes at Jayalalithaa's memorial at Marina Beach. He had stepped in before, twice, handpicked by Ms Jayalalithaa when she had to resign over corruption cases.
Addressing media in Rajapalayam, he said an accord has been reached following talks between the two factions.
May 19: The Panneerselvam camp approaches the Election Commission in Delhi urging it to restrain the Sasikala faction from using the AIADMK office.
