On June 28, authorities said they were contacted a woman caring for Wilde and Christenson's pets.
According to police, Wilde grabbed the vehicle seat and ran out another door, hitting a pillar and dropping his daughter again. They face drug distribution and child endangerment charges.
The shocking revelation unfolded after Wilde and Christenson entered a Walmart supermarket in the city of Spanish Fork with his two-month-old daughter in a auto seat in a shopping trolley.
Authorities said the 26-year-old Lacey Dawn Christenson, his wife, and the child's mother was also in Walmart along with their other 3 children.
"Bedrooms, family room bathrooms, there was a substantial quantity of drug paraphernalia in those areas; all areas where those children would have immediate access to those items", said Sgt. Spencer Cannon, Utah County Sheriff Department.
As investigators pressed the couple about their drug use, they reportedly admitted that they started crushing up narcotics and putting it on their newborn's gums the very day she was born, while still in the hospital.
Deputies served a search warrant on the house and found numerous drug and paraphernalia items, he said.
Using the description from Walmart loss prevention employees a Deputy with the Utah County Sheriffs Office, who was near the area, found the suspect driving away from the area and stopped him in the parking lot.
Drug addiction is now the second leading cause for removal from parental custody, following child neglect, which social workers note is often exacerbated by drug use in the home. Police officials caught Wilde, and he was charged with driving under the influence, possession of methamphetamine and heroin, driving without insurance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Wilde is father to the three younger children.
The statement revealed Christenson was still inside the store with her three sons. The father didn't want to separate the boy from his siblings, so he took the other children into his custody as well.
Authorities learned the two younger boys and the infant girl tested positive for methamphetamine. The parents of the other three children are Colby Wilde and Lacey Christenson. "They took this medication crushed it up". Because of that, her child, born on April 9, 2017, was born addicted to drugs. "(They) told investigators they talked to friends about how to mask signs of drug dependence in an infant, and that they discussed this issue with each other".
Because of this, both were initially charged with child endangerment and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to the Tribune, but later released on bail.
Christenson admitted to investigators that he crushed the Suboxone and gave it to their daughter, police said.
When put under tests, the new born tested positive for methamphetamine, heroin and morphine.
Bail for Wilde and Christenson is now set at US$10,000.
They are both being held on a $10,000 (£7,000) cash bail.
A later search of their home found a trove of illegal substances, police said.
Police managed to stop his auto and arrest Wilde, who was charged with suspicion of DUI, possession of heroin and methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and having no insurance.
