TMZ reported he appeared in nearly 200 films and television shows and "worked until his death". In one of the series' most celebrated episodes, "The Mind of Stefan Miklos", Landau impersonated two different men as part of a sting-like operation, showcasing his skill at creating two distinct characters through physicality alone, no makeup or prosthetics necessary. "To become an actor was a dream I must've had so deeply and so strongly because I left a lucrative, well-paying job that I could do well to become an unemployed actor".

He was an Oscar victor who worked with such iconic directors as Alfred Hitchcock, Francis Ford Coppola and Woody Allen; earned three Emmy nominations for his role as a suave spy in the cult '60s series "Mission Impossible" - and even taught Method acting to a young Hollywood hopeful named Jack Nicholson. Nicholson once credited his acting abilities to Landau. He was even offered the role of Spock on Star Trek, but he turned it down because "it would've been torturous" to play the emotionless Vulcan.

His best supporting actor Oscar win for his role in Tim Burton's 1994 Ed Wood capped a long and versatile career, filled with remarkable ups and downs.

In 1955 Landau and Steve McQueen were named the only two new students to the Actors Studio after an audition for Lee Strasberg.

As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, actor Martin Landau-who won an Academy Award for his performance as Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood-has died. He won an Oscar for his role as Bela Lugosi.

Landau was born in Brooklyn and began his career as an illustrator and staff cartoonist at the New York Daily News. He was everywhere again, usually cast as sober authority figures - lawyers, judges, doctors, the President - all the while working his way towards Tim Burton's Ed Wood. While that kind of "could've, would've, should've" might have eaten away at other actors, Landau managed to find his own way into a hit TV series.

In more recent years, Landau appeared in The X-Files, Rounders, and 9, and he earned multiple Emmy nominations for his work on Without A Trace. He is also survived by Bain, with whom he was married until 1993. After years of forgettable walk-on parts, writers were tailoring roles for him.

Survivors include his daughters Susie (a writer-producer) and Juliet (an actress-dancer) from his marriage to Bain; sons-in-law Roy and Deverill; sister Elinor; granddaughter Aria; and godson Dylan. Or I was getting up to bat and no one was pitching to me.
