While officers were in the process of taking Thompson into custody, the suspect reportedly made his request.

An Oklahoma man popped the question while he was handcuffed and under arrest for felony warrants.

A man in Oklahoma was being arrested when he made a decision to ask his girlfriend to marry him, and she said yes.

The video, recorded on K9 Officer Bob Lynch's body camera, and later posted on YouTube by Officer Anderson shows Mr Thompson going down on his knees while still handcuffed. Officers had recognized him early that day and tracked him down to find him celebrating the holiday with family and his girlfriend, Leandria Keith.

Court documents show Thompson's charges included possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, failure to appear in court, and possession of a controlled unsafe substance.

Lincoln Anderson, a spokesman for Muskogee police, said the department hopes his pending nuptials will provide a steady foundation for reconstructing his life.

"I didn't want to part ways with her not showing exactly how I feel for her", Thompson said.

"I asked the officer if I could propose", Thompson later told CNN. Keith told KOTV she was shocked by the sudden proposal, but also ecstatic to hear Thompson's profession of love.

The couple say they now plan to get married as soon as Thompson's legal troubles are resolved.

His new fiancée pulled the couple's savings together to bail Thompson out of jail.

He is scheduled to appear in court on July 17.

The officer agreed to let him propose and took the ring out of Harrel's pocket.
