Over the last 40 years, Samsung Electronics' U.S. subsidiary, Samsung Electronics America, has steadily expanded its footprint in the U.S., creating thousands of high-skilled jobs and investing in cutting-edge manufacturing.
The $380 million facility will make some of Samsung's most popular appliances at the 284 Mawsons Way, Newberry location - the former Caterpillar facility.
Samsung Electronics America described it as a "state of the art" facility that starting next year will build premium home products, including washing machines, and will be staffed with craftsmen, engineers and operators.

"We aspire to be the global leader in premium home appliances", Samsung CEO B.K. Yoon said.
To secure a sustainable growth base in the US market, Samsung Electronics started reviewing the idea of establishing a production plant three years ago.

"It is a reflection of the fact that America became a destination of choice for worldwide companies who are seeking to expand", said u.s. Commerce secretary, Wilbur Ross, in a press release.
After the report on the possible Samsung plant in February, Trump tweeted, "Thank you, @samsung!"
"As the demand for the products is rising globally, the establishment of a new US production line will not lead to the supply decline from factories of other regions", a Samsung Electronics official said.
The world's leading manufacturer of smartphones, was chosen as the site of Newberry County, South Carolina, to set up a factory with the latest technology that will manufacture of electrical household appliances (refrigerators, dishwashers...), says a press release. The commerce department of the southern U.S. state said it approved job development credits for the project by the South Korean technology giant.
"It's incredibly exciting that a company of the size and caliber of Samsung would choose our community for such a large and important manufacturing project", said Henry H. Livingston III, Newberry County Council chairman. "Their announcement is very significant to the Port, and it reflects our ability to meet the global supply chain needs of major worldwide manufacturers".
Wednesday's announcement came as South Korean President Moon Jae-in arrived in Washington for a summit meeting with US President Donald Trump.
