She said: "I like to play finals on grass".
Serving first proved crucial for Sevastova in the decider, and the 27-year-old served out the win on her first match point after two hours and 14 minutes on court. Kvitova won Wimbledon in 2011 and again in 2014 and will now head into the tournament as one of the favourites given her impressive victory from a strong field in Birmingham. And this is something clearly special. "I couldn't play for five or six months and I missed it", added Kvitova.
"For me it is important to use my slice on the grass and I love coming out here, slicing away and getting a bit of purchase on the ball and I was able to do that and it was really pleasing" Barty said. I will not practise for a couple of days, for sure. She underwent almost four hours of surgery on her left hand and forearm, and her left hand is still not fully recovered.
"I don't think you can find any tennis player at all who isn't happy to see (Petra) back and genuinely pleased she's back on tour and being successful", Barty said. Kvitova has yet to drop a set this tournament and didn't have to work as hard in the semifinals due to Safarova retiring in the second set. "From the first hit on the grass I felt great".
Kvitova said she now felt no discomfort from the hand that required four hours of surgery to fix tendons.
And, to cap off an incredible tournament for Barty, she will partner Casey Dellacqua in the doubles final against Hao-ching and Chan Shuai Zhang.
The first game still showed a Kvitova who had yet to find her rhythm; from 40-0 up, she lost three points in a row - including a double-fault - and brought the game to deuce.
Breaks of serve were exchanged in the middle of the opening set, which Sevastova took, but Goerges fought back and broke in the sixth game of the second set before holding her service games to level up the match.
"I think I couldn't have imagined a better comeback, for sure. I played the final one year and it's always been great preparation for me for Wimbledon".
"It's so fantastic to have Petra back on the court".
At Mallorca: WTA Mallorca Open: Final: Anastasija Sevastova bt Julia Goerges 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. But Petra came out in the second and put me on the back foot pretty early.
