Uddhav was addressing the Sena's conclave at Shanmukhananda auditorium to mark the party's 51st anniversary.
Joining the critics of NDA's Presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind, Shiv Sena on Monday said it would not extend its support if the Centre is eyeing a vote bank by nominating a Dalit face for the upcoming President polls.
"The Shiv Sena is not interested in the presidential election if you are going to field a candidate only because he belongs to the Dalit community". They said that when they decide, they will come back to us with a proposal.
"We have never played politics using anybody as a shield". Our country is Hindu and there should be no fear in saying this.
Raut reiterated that the Shiv Sena was keen on the candidature of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat or eminent agro-scientist M.S. Swaminathan. "Only the Sena can speak in support of this people". "No political party should think that it is going to win every election. The situation in the state is fast changing". "They are bringing in rules based on regions".
He further said that the grand old party would not comment on NDA's Presidential nominee as of now and would meet on June 22 to formally discuss the matter. "Our enemies talk about mid-term elections frequently. As of now, my only concern are farmers who are forced to commit suicide in the middle of their lives", Thackeray said.
The BJP has now called its parliamentarians and legislators to Delhi to sign nomination papers for the election in order.
"Amit Shah called up Uddhavji after the NDA's presidential candidate was decided in the BJP's Parliamentary Board meeting".
Though it later joined the BJP-led ministry in Maharashtra, Sena has continued to needle the lead partner over all vital issues including demonetisation and tension on the borders.
