Canadian rapper Drake and American electronic dance music (EDM) pop duo The Chainsmokers each bagged a record 22 nominations at this year's Billboard Music Awards.
The electronica duo earned two nods in the Top Hot 100 Song category, nominations for Top Artist and Top Duo/Group, as well as several of their hits being up for honours for being among the best selling tracks of the year. It debuted in the top spot on Billboard's top USA electronic and dance album chart and No. 5 on Billboard's Top 200 list. The Chainsmokers are just as decorated this year, with nominations including Top Dance/Electronic Album, Top Hot 100 Song, Top Selling Song, Top Radio Song, Top Collaboration and Top Dance/Electronic Song.
Another exciting race is shaping up in the Top Billboard 200 Album category with the following nominees: Beyoncé, Lemonade; Drake, Views; Rihanna, Anti; Twenty One Pilots, Blurryface and The Weeknd, Starboy.
According to Billboard, "The Top R&B Song category is a tight one, with Rihanna doubling down thanks to "Needed Me" and her collabo with Drake on "Work".
The two music superstars are nominated for top artist as well as being pitched against other for top female artist at next month's Las Vegas ceremony, which marks one of the biggest nights on the United States music calendar.
Adele and Beyonce will go head-to-head for the top gong at the Billboard Music Awards. On the male side, Justin Bieber will compete against Drake, Future, Shawn Mendes and The Weeknd.
They are also up for the Top Rock Tour accolade, along with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.
Also up for that prize are Coldplay, The Lumineers, Twenty One Pilots and X Ambassadors.
