C Joel Embiid, the Sixers' leading scorer and rebounder, hyperextended his left knee while landing after a dunk with 6:57 left in the third quarter.

The more critical story for the Sixers, however, is Embiid and the left knee contusion he suffered in the game. As he rose, he ran in place for a couple of steps and the sigh of relief from the sold-out building created a breeze from all directions of about 20 miles per hour. He then attempted to return to the game, but was taken out again in the fourth quarter by the 76ers' medical staff as a precaution.

There was some hope the rookie center, who is averaging 19.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, would be able to shake off the injury in time to play against Atlanta. It stopped his streak of 10 consecutive games of scoring 20 or more points in less than 30 minutes of play.

For the 76ers, the win is their eighth win in their last 10 games, and they have now won three in a row. That is the most by a player in National Basketball Association history.

In this game's preview, I wrote, "While Portland's calling card is clearly their offensive attack behind Lillard and McCollum, a unit good enough to rank 10th in the league in offensive rating at 109.1 points per 100 possessions, this is their first test against The Process himself".

Ersan Ilyasova scored 24 points on 9 of 14 shooting, while Covington finished with 22 as the Sixers notched their 15th win in 41 outings.
