From party decorations and school supplies to fashion accessories and t-shirts emojis are clearly here to stay especially with the constant IOS updates that introduce hundreds of new emojis a year. As we pointed out earlier this year, The Emoji Movie is created to be "one long commercial for mobile apps" and that news was confirmed this morning with new details released by Sony. The animated movie will feature voices from stars like T.J Miller, James Corden and Ilana Glazer. That's not to say "meh" was our reaction to it, it's just the name of Steven Wright's Mel Meh, a meh emoji who "announces" the film with all the enthusiasm you'd expect given his name. The rumor is popular apps like Facebook, Dropbox, Twitter, Instagram, Candy Crush Saga, Youtube, Shazam and Snapchat will all be travelled through during the movie. Leonardis co-wrote the film's screenplay with 'School of Rock's Eric Siegel and Mike White.
So, like our headline suggests, The Emoji Movie trailer ends with the shit emoji.
While the teaser doesn't give away much, the story takes place in Textopolis, a city (hidden inside your phone, duh!) where all the emojis live, hoping to be selected by the phone's user. In The Emoji Movie, Gene, an emoji born with multiple expressions, teams up with his handy best friend Hi-5 and the notorious codebreaker Jailbreak on what's described as an epic adventure through the apps on a teenager's phone.
The Emoji Movie hits theaters on August 4 2017.
